MEET THE MAESTRO INTERVIEW
Katrina - General Counsel
‍
At Maestro, we know there’s more to life than work. In our “Meet the Maestro” series, we peek beyond the CV to discover what makes our Maestros tick.
Our Maestro this week is seasoned legal and governance expert Katrina, whose career spans more than 30 years across corporate law, risk, ICT, M&A, privacy and insurance. As a strategic in-house lawyer and governance professional, Katrina goes beyond simply solving problems; she helps businesses anticipate legal risks, unlock opportunities and drive sustainable growth.
With a rare blend of legal expertise, IT acumen and consulting experience, she excels at bridging the gap between law, business and technology. This unique perspective allows her to deliver practical, commercially aligned legal solutions that support faster, smarter and more confident decision-making.
Working with ASX-listed companies, private enterprises, and government clients, she works in the capacity of Fractional General Counsel, Governance Advisor and Interim Legal Executive.

Supporting the COVID-19 Response in Queensland by by creating a super-agile contract terms and framework, negotiating, advising, and signing deals in under 40 minutes.
2. Talk us through an unusual career choice you’ve made along the way…
I started as a baby programmer, moved through computer science, then business consulting, switched gears to law in private practice, went in-house, and now offer fractional General Counsel support. Quite the adventure!
3. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
First, I just wanted to go to uni like my dad and most of his friends. Then, out of the blue, I decided I wanted to be a lawyer - no clue why, maybe blame it on Play School.
4. What are your passions outside of work and how do you make time for them?
Live music and local shows are my jam, especially if friends or local creatives are involved. I always find time to catch a gig.
5. If you could instantly master any skill or hobby, what would it be and why?
I actually love learning, so instant skills aren’t my thing. Lately, I’ve been mastering the Cricut Maker, digital design, and even teaching myself to sell on Shopify - always experimenting!
6. What’s a personal value or belief that guides the way you live your life?
Always be kind and do the right thing. I’m passionate about helping people and businesses shine and being their cheerleader. Simply noticing someone’s effort is powerful.

Not many tough challenges yet, just learning that chasing titles isn’t everything - it’s okay to focus on what truly makes you happy.

Fractional General Counsel will be part of my DNA until I decide to retire. Contract work is my style, and I see it continuing.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go and what would you do?
I love exploring close to home. Did you know you can walk to King Island from shore at low tide in Wellington Point, just 20 minutes away from where I live? No passport needed!
10. What does success look like to you?
Having enough to comfortably pay bills, enjoy life, and support causes close to my heart.
